Bethany, Charlie Chaplin and Michael Jackson
July 24, 2010
MJ fans we have an opportunity to help a young girl named Bethany who is working to raise money for a U.K. children’s hospice in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, England called Martin House. It was brought to my attention by dot member MJsHeart, and as she said, "this has Michael written all over it."
Bethany decided to create a short film (yes, she calls it that) dressed up as Charlie Chaplin, the legendary silent-movie comic that Michael loved so dearly. She added the song "Smile" (Michael’s favorite song) to the video. Unfortunately, a copyright claim was made and she was forced to take the song off of the video, so this very smart young girl decided to make it into a silent movie instead.
As MJsHeart said in her email to me, and I agree with her, "I really believe Michael would have reached out to her if he were here." Since he is not, we must do it in his name!
Please visit the Just Giving website to view her video and if you feel inspired to do so, please make a small donation. The site requires a minimum 2 pound donation. The exchange rate (Great Britain Pounds to U.S. Dollars) is about 1.5 right now.
Once you make a donation you will be given an opportunity to leave her a short message, only about 150 characters. Let her know you are making the donation in Michael’s memory. Tribute team member, Michelle Gold, left this message when she made her donation: "This donation was made in memory of Michael Jackson by one of his fans at www.michaeljacksontributeportrait.com!"

Thank you, Michael's Angels, for carrying on his legacy! If you donate to Martin's House, please come back and leave a comment below so we can recognize your efforts with a Michael's Angels badge (one per profile) - your efforts may inspire others to do the same! [Please see June 2010 update below.] Read more here about becoming one of Michael's Angels.
***UPDATE: June 2012 – Our current Michael’s Angels badges, the first of which has been active for more than 2 and a half years, will be retired at the end of this month (badges assigned to members will remain on their profiles). While the badges are being retired, the efforts to carry on Michael Jackson’s humanitarian legacy will not! We encourage you to continue to support the charities, programs and initiatives we’ve highlighted so far in our Michael’s Angels program. We encourage you to keep volunteering and supporting charities that speak to your heart. Keep helping others; keep protecting the planet; keep doing what you do to make the world a better place and being an example to others, encouraging them to help heal the world.
