Urgent Action Needed for Michael Jackson
[Updated December 31, 2010 - Please see important updates below. Now is the time to send letters of thanks to the parties below for making the right decision - to cancel the show.]
The Discovery UK Channel is planning to air a documentary showing a re-enactment of Michael’s autopsy. The program is set to air January 13,14, 16, and 17th. The MJJJustice Project has launched a letter writing campaign in an effort to try to stop it.
The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait encourages dot members to get involved. However, we advocate dealing with this in a respectful and dignified manner. We do not support bullying, name calling, shaming or attacking the character of Discovery, its employees or their sponsors.
We recommend you simply take a few minutes to reflect on why you think this program should not air, the problems it may cause and the people it may hurt; then convey your thoughts about that in your letters or emails.
The Michael Jackson Estate® is aware of this program and has looked into stopping it. However, they are unable to do so from a legal standpoint. The MJJJusticeProject has issued the following statement about this: "Michael Jackson’s Estate has recently advised that their team of lawyers after discussions with UK lawyers regarding the autopsy program, were told there were insufficient legal grounds to stop Discovery from airing the planned autopsy of Michael Jackson. The situation is still being monitored. In light of the above, the global effort to accelerate emails, calls and letter writing to Discovery is now critical." [SEE UPDATE BELOW.]
There are a variety of ways you can get involved; letters and emails to the Discovery Network are encouraged. Visit the Facebook page dedicated to stopping the Discovery Channel from airing MJ’s autopsy. They have sample letters, emails, and contact details for Discovery and much more.

Update December 29, 2010
December 29 - TMZ, the celebrity gossip TV series and website, acquired and made public a private letter from John G. Branca and John McClain (representing the Michael Jackson Estate), which was addressed to Discovery UK. The heartfelt and impassioned letter urges Discovery Network to abandon plans to air a sensationalistic and offensive documentary that features a reenactment of Michael Jackson's autopsy. Fans worldwide, who have been outraged by news of this program (set to air in January), have started a campaign to pressure the network to cancel the airing.
The strongly worded and persuasive letter from the Estate lawyers is being seen by fans as their greatest weapon in their fight against the Discovery documentary. Although the release of the private letter has empowered most fans and put additional public pressure on Discovery UK, the Estate was disappointed that it has been leaked.
The letter demonstrates that when it comes to protecting and preserving the positive image and legacy of Michael Jackson - his family, his fans and his Estate are united.
Update December 31, 2010
Discovery UK Cancels Autopsy Program!
It's official! The Discovery Channel has issued a statement saying they will cancel the show reenacting Michael Jackson's Autopsy. The Discovery Network gave this reason for the cancellation, "Given the commencement of legal proceedings beginning next week, and at the request of the Michael Jackson Estate, the scheduled broadcast of the medical documentary related to Michael Jackson's official autopsy has been postponed indefinitely."
John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Michael Jackson Estate made this statement: "The Estate of Michael Jackson is pleased that Discovery Channel made the correct decision in choosing to cancel this exploitative program. We are hopeful that this show will never run in any market in the future. While Discovery cited legal proceedings and our request as the reasons for it's decision, none of this would have have happened had it not been for the incredible passion displayed by countless Michael Jackson fans worldwide who knew they stood as one and that their voices could not be ignored."
Great job to all the fans and kudos to the leadership of MJJJusticeProject.
"There's nothing that can't be done if we raise our voice as one." - Michael Jackson
