01. Spreading Michael's Messages in 2012
I have used this platform given to me by the MJTP for the last two and a half years as an opportunity to express appreciation for things I love about Michael Jackson, such as the compassion he had for humanity, the sensitivity he had for the planet, his generosity of spirit, and amazing talent. I wanted to demonstrate why he is one of the most loved people in the world. When I write about him it comes from the heart, but prior to 2009, I wouldn’t have been able to write this way. When Paris spoke those heartbreaking words at Michael's memorial service, the walls that had been up built up around my heart came tumbling down. That’s when all of this pent up love came flowing out of me and it hasn’t stopped since. The experience has been life changing.  Michael has created a place in each one of our hearts where he resides forever. It has been said that out of every tragedy comes something good. I know one thing good that has come of it is that we have become a very...
01. The Spiritual Experience of Writing Michael's Magic Box
I still have days where a single thought about Michael Jackson can bring me to tears instantly. It has happened to me twice this month. They weren’t tears of sadness though. I can only explain it by using his words: “In those moments I felt touched by something sacred.” It begins with a thought about him and turns into a feeling of pure, deep, profound love. In writing Michael’s Magic Box, I have begun to experience creativity in the way Michael used to always speak about. (For those who aren’t familiar with Michael’s Magic Box, read a brief summary about it here.) I have tried to write chapters ahead, but I’ve found it doesn’t work that way. Now I understand what he meant when he said, something in the heavens has to say now it’s time for you to have this. I feel guided every month when it’s time to write and in what I am supposed to write about.  Writing this story has caused me to recognize that creativity is a spiritual experience.  It is truly...
02. Michael Jackson - A Vessel of Love and Healing
As Thanksgiving Day came to a close I sat down to relax for the evening in my favorite recliner with a soft blanket covering me. Since nothing was on TV I decided to pull out my phone and watch some videos of Michael on YouTube. I started by watching tributes fans have put together – each one heartfelt in their own way – like this one called "Why You'd Leave the Stage." This video still brings me to tears, every single time!  Before I knew it I had spent two hours immersed in watching Michael, feeling an extraordinary amount of love the entire time. I listened to Dr. Wayne Dyer talk about the week he and his family spent with Michael at Neverland Ranch. I’ve seen Dr. Dyer in person. He has that same loving aura and energy about him that Michael has. When you are in his presence you can feel his light. I was thrilled when this video was posted because he spoke about his solid belief in Michael’s innocence. In fact, he referred to him as “a transcendent being...
03. A Community Outraged
I have heard from several MJ fans in the past two weeks who have told me how the trial has taken them to a dark place, making them feel angry and depressed. I thought a guilty verdict would make me feel relieved but it actually left me feeling kind of empty. Although justice was served, it doesn’t bring Michael Jackson back. I know the trial has taken its toll emotionally on everyone – fans, friends and family – so I was hoping that once the verdict came in we would be able to put it all behind us and move forward, but there is one thing preventing us from doing that: the documentary Conrad Murray filmed.   Like many other fans, I was outraged that television stations would even consider buying this documentary and I joined in the quest to let our disgust be known, staging a boycott and making a plea to advertisers not to sponsor it.  La Toya Jackson even got involved, tweeting about her efforts to stop it and, although hesitant to do so, Jermaine talked...
04. A Message from Michael Jackson
Friday, September 30th, marked the end of the first week of the Conrad Murray trial for the death of Michael Jackson. It was an emotionally devastating week. I felt sad, angry, disgusted, and horrified as I heard and saw things that broke my heart. I can't even imagine how Mrs. Jackson and the rest of the family must have felt sitting in that courtroom every day. While I listened to the testimony of the witnesses, I found myself asking God the same question I have many times before: Why did he have to go?  Even though I want to put some of the events of last week out of my mind, there is one I want to remember. Kenny Ortega testified that the last song Michael ever sang was “Earth Song.” That is my favorite song. There is something about that song that touches my heart deeply; it's a combination of the message, the music and Michael's voice. To know it was the last song he ever sang, brought a tear to my eye. As Friday evening approached, I just...
05. The End of an Era: My Thoughts About Jermaine's Book
As I finished reading the last page of Jermaine Jackson’s book, You Are Not Alone Michael: Through a Brother’s Eyes, I wept, openly, for about ten minutes. In fact, I had already been crying as I read the last two chapters. Once I composed myself and went about my business, at various times throughout the day I would find myself in tears again. The next morning, I awoke at 3am; while lying there thinking, the tears started to flow again. I thought to myself, Why has this book affected me like this?Michael is four years older than I am, so, in a sense, I grew up with him. He captured my heart many years ago, so Jermaine’s memoir took me back down memory lane as he told stories about each period of Michael’s life: the beginning, the middle, and the end. I remember lying on the living room floor on my elbows in front of the television, watching in awe as they performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, singing “ABC” right along with them. I also remember how much I loved the...
06. Michael Jackson's Fans Need to Get A Life?
I came across this video the other day of Donny Deutsch, an American businessman, author and television personality, talking about Michael Jackson’s death.  Please watch the video before you read on.  Let me preface this by saying that Donny Deutsch is an amazing businessman. In addition to hosting his popular show on CNBC, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, he is also the Chairman of Deutsch Inc., a 2.5 billion dollar ad agency and he serves on the board of directors for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Having said that, he clearly does not understand the impact Michael Jackson has had on the world. He expresses his disbelief about the level of attention Michael received when he died, comparing his death to other people who passed away that have made an impact in the world. “In the last few days there are other Americans that have died,” Deutsch said. “Kenneth Russell…he flew 253 combat missions in three wars; Sylvia Levin…she registered...
07. A Star is Born - Michael Jackson
“A star is a person who shines so brightly, who gives their gifts so fully, who loves so completely that everyone is drawn by the light of this star to find the way home.” – Chuck Spezzano, If It Hurts It Isn't LoveSometimes when I’m watching someone being interviewed on television I like to pretend that I am the one being interviewed. I like to reflect on how I would answer certain questions, because doing so tends to give me clarity about who I am and what is important to me.  The other day I watched a video of one of my favorite authors being interviewed. She was asked to tell people who may not know much about her what her basic philosophy is, what the foundation of her work is based on. She began to talk about what she saw as problems in the world and her ideas on how to solve them.  For me, I really believe that man’s inhumanity to man is destroying our world.  We’re a society that has been living with a closed heart for so long that...
08. The Power of Michael
As I sat on the plane waiting to leave for home after paying my respects to Michael Jackson on the 2nd anniversary of his passing, I had to hold back the tears. I was not ready to leave. Even though my body was on that plane, my heart was back at Forest Lawn. This trip was a life changing experience for me and I didn’t want to let go of that feeling. Last year I visited the places Michael used to live; Neverland, Hayvenhurst and Carolwood and had powerful experiences at each place, some good and some bad. The only house I cared to return to this year was Neverland. I remembered how I felt at peace there. I had been able to visualize the happier times. I imagined the children, the rides, the giving tree; all the things that brought him joy there. I couldn’t wait to experience that again. I remembered how the ride up there was so full of laughter, song and declarations of love for Michael. The scenery was absolutely stunning and I was looking forward to seeing it again,...
09. Michael Jackson's Ultimate Truth
“The truth reveals itself when you look with your heart.” – Linda HigginsThere are two things about life that I am certain. The first is that everyone in this world wants to feel like they are somebody worth loving. We all want to feel we are worth being treated with kindness, compassion, dignity and respect. To purposely treat someone otherwise is one of the most hurtful and destructive things that can be done to another human being. Yet that’s exactly what happened to Michael Jackson.  He was publicly shamed, criticized, ridiculed and condemned by writers, authors and journalists. He was the subject of entire television programs where the intent was to invite audience members and viewers to see him through the eyes of judgment and hatred; laughing, ridiculing and dismissing him as someone not worth loving. He was handcuffed and paraded around for the entire world to see when he was charged with allegations of child molestation, yet the person charged in his death was...
10 Things I've Learned from Michael Jackson
I was lying awake at 3:00 am this morning when all of these things that I've learned from Michael Jackson started to flood my mind. I'm not sure why, but I decided to write them down and share them with you. In reverse order:10. If you're going to do something, be the best at it! Practice, Perseverance, Dedication, Commitment. 9. Your talents are God-given gifts meant to be shared with the world. Honor them. 8. Follow your dreams and Keep the Faith, because it's just a matter of time. 7. All creativity is channeled, so don't write the music. Let the music write itself. (Or in my case, the story)6. If you care enough for the living, you'll make the world a better place. 5. It is possible for people to harmonize all around the world. See it's not about races, just places, faces.4. Before you judge someone, try hard to love them. Walk 2 moons in their moccasins. 3. Keep an open mind, because there really are people who will sell their soul just to get...
10. What's Wrong with Our World
I recently came across an intriguing documentary that is now showing in various parts of the United States called I AM. It was directed by Tom Shadyac, a Hollywood director whose previous work includes some very successful comedy blockbuster films such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor and Bruce Almighty. In this film however, he sets out to explore the answers to two very important questions: What's wrong with our world and what can we do about it? I believe the answers to those questions can be found by looking at the way Michael Jackson was treated during his lifetime. He was one of the most successful and influential recording artists of all time, with estimates of 750 million records sold worldwide. His achievements are too many to name but the records he holds in the Guinness Book of World Records give a small glimpse into the success he achieved:Guinness Book of World Records Michael Jackson's Thriller is the biggest selling album of all time,...
11. Fighting for the Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait
Some people say that out of every tragedy comes something good. Indeed, I’ve been blessed to encounter some of the most unconditional love I’ve ever experienced through friendships I’ve made in this community. However, in the last few months I’ve had people with whom I was friendly become distant. Some who used to engage with me through social networks stopped doing so as much, others whom I’ve tried to befriend have flat out ignored me; comments on our articles have dropped, and some people seemed to not support the MJTP to the extent they used to. I didn’t give it too much thought until I discovered that there are people in the community who feel the MJTP betrayed Michael because one of our team members attended (by invitation) the album release party for Michael, some even going as far as writing about it on their blogs. Now it all makes so much sense, I thought to myself as the tears began to flow. That hurt me. Our intent is to be a...
12. Associating with Michael Jackson
"He is probably the most famous person in the planet, God help him!" Those words were spoken by Bob Geldof when giving Michael Jackson the award for Artist of a Generation at the Brit Awards in 1996. I’m one of those people who believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe there was a reason he was the most famous person on the planet and in my opinion it has something to do with putting love back into the world. Everybody remembers what they were doing when they learned Michael Jackson had passed away. We remember exactly where we were, who told us, and what our reactions were. It was a defining moment in history, one that caused the world to take a collective gasp. Although the majority of people mourned his loss and moved on with their lives, there are some people who were affected at a deeper level, one that was life changing. I am one of those people. I knew very early on there was a reason his death touched me so profoundly. I knew there was a reason I was drawn to...
13. What Will Be the Lasting Impression of Michael Jackson
When the trial of The People vs. Conrad Murray commences for the death of Michael Jackson, fans, friends and family can expect to encounter more pain as the defense, in their quest to prove Murray’s claim of innocence, will do anything in their power to portray Michael in a negative light. This will be heart-wrenching for all of us to watch…to say the least. We will have to listen to them suggest he killed himself, which is a ridiculous notion for anyone who knows him. His children were much too important to him, which Jermaine Jackson validated in a recent tweet: "Michael did not, would not, take his own life. His children were too important; indisputable." In addition, we’re also going to have our hearts broken while we are reminded of what Michael’s children had to endure the morning of his passing. The judge has ruled that cameras will be allowed in the courtroom, which has its pros and cons, but I sincerely hope it doesn’t affect them in a negative way. We won’t be...
14. The Mastery of Michael Jackson
It’s amazing to me that no matter how many times I watch Michael Jackson’s concerts or short films, he is still able to evoke the same emotional responses from me, even though I know what’s going to happen. When I watch them I’m taken to another place in time as I am thoroughly engrossed in being entertained. His "Live in Bucharest" concert is one of my absolute favorites. I still feel the excitement building in me while I’m waiting for him to bolt up from under the stage, all the while wishing I would have had the opportunity to be there with the crowd chanting, "Michael, Michael, Michael!" When he performs "Black or White," I’m right there with him jamming away on my imaginary guitar, pumping my head up and down to the beat, and he never fails to capture my heart when he sings "I Just Can’t Stop Loving You." An instant smile comes over my face and stays there until he moves me to tears with "She’s Out of My life." That happens every single time. It’s not just me...
15. Through The Eyes of Love
As we say goodbye to 2010, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me in my work to love, honor and celebrate Michael Jackson on behalf of the MJTP. Since he passed away, I’ve used my articles & videos to capture and convey the heart and soul of Michael in an effort to show the world who he really was: an exceptionally talented, loving, creative, sensitive man who wanted to bring joy and escapism to people through his music and make the world a better place. My work has focused almost entirely on motivating, educating and inspiring people to look at him through the eyes of love, but moving into 2011, my heart is telling me it’s time to make a slight but powerful shift from looking through the eyes of love at Michael to looking at love through Michael’s eyes. In his performance at the 1993 Super Bowl, he made a very poignant statement. As he began to touch the crowd with his outstanding colorful display of "Heal The World" he spoke these...
16. Remembering Michael Jackson
I created this video from some footage that was taken of me and a few other fans who were remembering Michael at Neverland Ranch on June 24, 2010. I included some of the photos we took while we were there and there is also some great footage of him in there. Hope it brings you a moment of joy today!Linda HigginsDirector of Community DevelopmentConnect with me on Twitter and Facebook  var addthis_config = {"data_track_clickback":true};If you would like to be notified when I post a new article to my blog, send an email to Linda@michaeljacksontributeportrait.com with the word "subscribe" in the subject line.
17. Reflections of Gratitude for Michael Jackson
In the United States, November is the month of Thanksgiving. For one day we all typically eat a bountiful harvest, spend the day with loved ones and give thanks for everything we’re grateful for in our lives. Thanksgiving has long been the time of year that puts me in an attitude of gratitude as I reflect back on reasons why I feel blessed. Thanksgiving fell on the 25th day of November this year, a day of the month which always causes fans to stop and reflect on our love for Michael since he passed away on the 25th day of June. As a result, this year my reflections of gratitude are directed squarely at Michael, and I feel compelled to share them with you. I hope in doing so I will encourage all of you to reflect upon your feelings of gratitude for him as well.Mariah Carey’s loving words put us in the right frame of mind to do that: "Let us remember him for his unparalleled contribution to the world of music, his generosity of spirit in his quest to heal the world and the joy he...
18. A Light of Truth About Michael Jackson
In every generation, there are a handful of people who come into this world equipped with the ability to change it for the better because of their heightened sense of awareness about the power of love. Those people understand love, not as a feeling, but as a state of being, a way of relating to the world. They have a certain light about them; a way of living that encompasses being kind, caring, compassionate and empathic. Through their ability to connect to love, they have the potential to heal the world. Michael Jackson was one of them. In an attempt to define love, I’ll defer to Marianne Williamson through her book called "A Return to Love." She says, "(Love) is our ultimate reality, and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life." Michael seemed to truly understand that concept. His connection to love was so strong that he had an enhanced ability to deeply touch other people with his light. When...
19. Restoring the Honor to Michael Jackson's Name
I have made no secret of the fact that I believe Michael Jackson’s character was attacked purposely in order to ruin his reputation. The people who set out to do that succeeded, and there were many. They succeeded in attaching a stigma to his name, to the extent that it became a disgrace to be associated with him. When it reached its peak, to say that you were a friend, fan or advocate of Michael Jackson brought snide remarks and laughter. Shame and humiliation are powerful emotions and people will go to great lengths to avoid them; hence the reason why many friends turned their backs on him during his 2005 trial, why many fans didn’t dare declare themselves to be so, and why the Gardner Street Elementary School disassociated themselves from him, by covering up his name on the auditorium that they renamed after him in 1989.Following his arrest in 2003, the Los Angeles Unified School District made the decision to cover Michael Jackson’s name up, because angry parents in the...
20. You Are Not Alone: How Michael Jackson Saved Lives
"History books will never capture the essence of your humble soul and the lives you literally saved." Jodi Gomes, Executive Producer of "JACK5ONS: A Family Dynasty" and close personal friend of MJThe quote above is an excerpt from a heartfelt letter Jodi wrote as a message to Michael for his 52nd birthday. She posted it for everyone to read when MJ fans, friends and family took Twitter by storm on his birthday, posting their own personal #MessagetoMJ.I found her letter to be very profound and timely, considering within the last couple of weeks I have had conversations with two different young women who claim exactly that; Michael Jackson saved their life.He was once asked how he would like to be remembered. Michael’s response was, "As a person who came and brought light to the world, some escapism; also as a voice for the voiceless children, because I love them. I’m living for the children. If it weren’t for the kids, I would throw in the towel."These two young women have...
21. What Does It Mean To Love Michael Jackson
One of the greatest attributes of the MJ Family is that we are a very close knit community dedicated to one purpose: loving Michael Jackson. Like any family we fight, we argue and we have differences of opinions. From what I have seen, most of our differences are based on our beliefs about one thing: what it means to love Michael Jackson.Every one of us has a pre-conceived notion about what it means to love him and those beliefs will dictate what we act on. The problem comes in thinking that if someone else doesn’t take those same actions, it means they don’t love him as much as we do.One of the biggest issues that we face about this subject right now is the new music that Sony will be releasing in November 2010.  According to an exclusive report by Rolling Stone, this album will feature a collection of ten "never before heard Jackson songs." It will be the first of ten projects over the next seven years. Some fans want to stage a boycott and not buy the...
22. A Journey of L.O.V.E. for Michael Jackson
I wish everyone could have experienced what it was like to visit Michael Jackson’s final resting place on the one year anniversary of his passing, but since that wasn‘t possible, I decided to blog about my experience to give you a small glimpse into what it was like. I have tried to capture and convey to you the emotion I felt in each place we visited while we were there. My trip was shared with three other friends. Two are team members on the Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait, Valmai and Heather. The other is a dot member I have become good friends with named Kelley. We were all there for the same reason; to pay our respects to Michael Jackson. Other than the few times we got horribly lost, it was a great experience. We began our journey at Michael’s star on the Walk of Fame. Of all the stars on there, his was of course the one everyone flocked to. We met people from all over the world there; Japan, Germany, France. Everyone wanted to get their picture taken next to his star.The...
23. From Fans to Family; A World Brought Together by Michael Jackson
"If I had a single flower for every time I think of you, I could walk forever in my garden" Claudia GhandiCan you believe it has already been one year since the passing of Michael Jackson? I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that this has been one of the most emotionally difficult years we have ever been through. It has been a long, hard road for us as we have tried to come to terms with the loss of someone so special. We have experienced every emotion under the sun, from anger to disgust, from sadness to love.Brought together by an unspeakable tragedy, we have developed an unbreakable bond, because we relate to each other. When Michael passed away, we all experienced the same feelings of sadness and loss, so we understand each other. We can talk about our feelings with other fans, safe in the knowledge that we won’t be judged or ridiculed, as we so often are outside of our community. It has been a blessing to share that kind of a bond with so many other people.We...
24. Our Quest to Protect Michael Jackson's Legacy
Never did I imagine that with the death of Michael Jackson, my faith in humanity and my belief that people are basically good, would be shaken to the core. I’ve been a fan for decades, but since his passing I’ve been thrust into his world, and as a result, that’s exactly what happened. As the details of the injustices he encountered came to light, so did the awareness that a dark side of humanity exists; a reality he had to deal with every day of his life. I’ve been haunted by that awareness ever since. We’ve come to see the truth that he conveyed in some of his songs. There really are people who will "sell their soul just to get the story told" and there really are people who will do "anything for money." I figured the basic goodness in people would kick in and the sensationalism he so often spoke about would stop after he passed away. I thought people would take his children’s feelings into account and think twice about how their actions may affect them. I thought...
25. Carrying out Michael Jackson's Legacy of Love

26. Loving Michael Jackson
This is a video I created to show the significance of the loss of Michael Jackson for his fans, friends and family and to help the world understand why justice is so important to us. He wasn't a character you can read about in tabloids. He was a father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and the worlds greatest entertainer.I created it using some of my favorite quotes and pictures of MJ. Hope you like it!It’s all for L.O.V.E. for Michael JacksonLinda HigginsDirector of Community Development If you can't view the video above, try this link. 27. A Gift of L.O.V.E.
Throughout Michael Jackson’s life and career as the world’s greatest entertainer, there was always one thing that remained consistent...the special relationship he had with his fans. He treated us with the utmost dignity, respect and love. He dedicated his life to us, publically declaring, "I am married to my fans." They say you never forget your first love and I believe for Michael, his fans were his first love.He knew that the love of his fans was the one thing that he could always count on. Our love nourished him in the good times and carried him through the bad times. Now we have an opportunity to do the same thing for his mother and children, through the Patchwork Blanket Project on The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait. Each quilt is made up of patches that contain the name and the love of a fan. That is what makes them so special; they contain the energy of love. These quilts, and the love they represent, will help nourish them in the good times and carry them through the...
28. Welcome to a New Blog
Welcome to my blog. As the Director of Community Development my responsibility is to empower dot members with the tools, motivation and inspiration to stay focused on Michael's mission, carry out his legacy and keep love in the forefront of our lives.     With the passing of our most beloved Icon, comes the responsibility of fans, friends, and family to ensure that his life has meaning beyond his passing.  We can do that by remembering that his message was always love.  I believe that Michael had a higher level of awareness than most, about the power and effects of love. Since he has worldwide appeal to millions of people, he has the potential to in turn raise the level of the world's awareness about the power of love.     In a video he made for his kids, he wished for them to learn the true meaning of success, which is Love.  About the tour he was planning to do in July called “This Is...
28.The Man Behind the Music
Michael Jackson’s influence in music will be felt for many generations to come. Millions of people were inspired by his musical genius and talent. However, his personal influence has yet to fully manifest itself, due in part to the fact that the man behind the music was largely misunderstood until his death. Prior to his death, the world rarely heard anything positive about him. For the vast majority of fans, information about who he was came from sensationalistic, tainted and unreliable sources such as news networks, magazines and tabloids. Most people have learned that Michael’s image and reputation was manipulated to influence the public’s opinion of him in a negative way by those who stood to gain from doing so. They created a stigma associated with Michael Jackson, thereby making it acceptable to love the music, but unacceptable to love the man. After June 25th, the truth came to light. Stories about his true character started to emerge. We became aware of things we had not...
29. We All Just Want Justice
After months of pain, anguish and disillusionment, it appears that charges may finally be brought up against Conrad Murray in the death of Michael Jackson. This has brought up a plethora of emotions for fans all around the world. We are justifiably angry, sad and hurt that the reckless actions of one man took the life of someone we love and we want justice to prevail. The heartbreaking pain of our loss has come to the surface all over again and everyone is feeling the sometimes overwhelming effects of it.We are all asking, why? Why is it taking so long for him to be arrested and charged? Why does he get to quietly turn himself in when Michael had to be handcuffed and paraded in front of the entire world? Most importantly, why didn’t he care for him like he was supposed to? What about the oath he took? Does he know the pain he has caused millions of people? Michael put his trust in him and it cost him his life! It was the ultimate betrayal. All of these questions, delays and...
30. What Michael Jackson Taught the World
As I sit here writing this on the seven month anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death, fans, friends and family are still struggling to come to terms with why someone so special had to be taken from this earth so soon. In my opinion, there is only one way to make sense of such a tragedy and that is to look for the meaning behind it.Michael felt he had a higher purpose to his life, which was "to unite the world through love and music" as he stated in his autobiography Moonwalk. I agree with that, because there are many things about his life that points to him having a higher purpose.Endowed with phenomenal talent that manifested itself at an early age, he saw it as a gift from God and he felt he was meant to cultivate it and use it for the greater good. In fact, he viewed it as a sin not to do so.His dedication to his craft allowed him to create global success unmatched by anyone else; which also made him the most famous person in the world. Being known by virtually everyone...
31. Why We Love Michael Jackson
With the passing of Michael Jackson, fans all over the world have joined together in a common purpose; to do justice for a man who experienced so much injustice. For some reason, this tends to baffle those outside of the MJ Community. They mock our loyalty, our dedication, and sometimes even our sanity. I’ve seen several references of fans being labeled "as crazy as he was."They think we are crazy for loving a man who they criticized for his changing appearance. Maybe they don’t understand that the color of a man’s skin doesn’t make the man. We loved him when he had the appearance of a black man and we loved him when he had the appearance of a white man. His skin color was irrelevant to us. They don’t understand that we didn’t care how many plastic surgeries he did or didn’t have. That was a personal matter for him. They don’t understand we weren’t bothered by his eccentricities, and his love of animals and children wasn’t strange to us. They don’t...
32. Our Pledge to Michael Jackson
At a time when the energy of hope is usually in the air, a time when we are ready to release the past and look forward to the coming year in anticipation of greater things; for the fans, friends and family of Michael Jackson, 2009 is a year we are reluctant to let go of. Going into 2010 means we have to leave behind a life where he was in it. The coming of a New Year signals a painful reminder that we now have to learn to live life having only memories of him. This time of year is when we all start to think about resolutions, those things we can do to better our personal lives. Most often it is usually a goal to lose weight or make more money; something to improve ourselves or our situations. In other years, those goals would be very commendable, but this year somehow those things seem insignificant. What has now become important is to ensure Michael’s life has meaning beyond his passing. To move forward into the New Year with a goal to continue everything he was working to...
33. An Ambassador of Peace, Love and Goodwill
"When you don’t have a childhood, like myself and other child stars, you try to compensate for the loss later on and you try to catch up. But what I like to do is help other children who are less fortunate than I am. You know, kids who are terminally ill, kids who have diseases, poor children." – Michael JacksonKatherine Jackson once told a story about how she and Michael used to watch the commercials of the starving children in Africa, the ones with flies around their mouths, and how they would both sit there with tears streaming down their faces.People who are profoundly affected by those types of commercials have a strong sense of empathy. Empathy is the ability to sense what someone else is feeling. Not everyone has this ability, but those who do can feel the feelings of other people as if they were their own. Some people have so much empathy, they are so in tune with other's feelings, that it pains them to see someone else suffering. Michael Jackson was one...
34. Cry Out of Joy for Michael
There is no denying that everyone who loved Michael Jackson felt like we lost a piece of ourselves when he died. He was our connection to love, our inspiration and a source of joy in our lives. Now begins the struggle to maintain that connection with him even though he is gone. How do you allow yourself to be happy and joyful when someone you loved that deeply is no longer here? It’s hard to get past the pain of knowing we will never see him again during our lifetime. In my last article called "I Need You Michael Jackson," I talked about lost opportunities and how we must move through the pain by letting ourselves cry about them. That is an important step to follow because it’s part of the grieving process. Once you have let yourself do that, you will begin to move from feeling sorrow over lost opportunities to feeling joy over gained blessings.I was inspired to write this article after I heard a song by Akon. It was written by him as a tribute to Michael Jackson, his friend and...
35. I Need You Michael Jackson
There is no greater pain or struggle in life than trying to heal from the death of someone you love. When it comes to Michael Jackson, the depth of love that so many people have for him, including fans, friends and family, is remarkable. Now that the initial shock is over, the healing process begins. Some of you were lucky enough to experience one of his concerts. Others are blessed with being friends or family, but the vast majority of us loved him from afar. That doesn’t mean that our grief is any less significant than anyone else’s.You may hear comments from people like "How can you hurt over someone you never knew?" They don’t understand that he is someone you knew. You may not have ever met him, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t have a relationship with him. Relationships are formed when a person makes an emotional impact on you in some way. That is certainly the case for Michael and his fans.Regardless of whether you knew Michael personally or not, you will still feel...
36. An Icon in the Music Industry
Michael Jackson’s music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up on his music. From the early years with the Jackson 5 singing "ABC" to "Thriller," the biggest selling album of all time...he was a force to be reckoned with. As he grew, he inspired me with songs that were meaningful and filled with positive messages, such as "Man in the Mirror," "We are the World" and "Heal the World."I remember how excited I was to watch his 30 year anniversary special where he reunited with his brothers to sing all the old favorites. The Motown 25 where he debuted the Moonwalk was simply incredible! When I watched him perform, I felt alive. Every song he sang was filled with heartfelt emotion. As a young boy, he once said: "I don't sing it if I don't mean it." He had a way of connecting personally with each and every fan.Michael has so many accomplishments that he has become an icon in the music industry. His contribution to music is something we should...

Happy 56th Birthday Michael Jackson
The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait officially began 5 years ago today, on Michael's birthday. I feel blessed to have been part of this team, in part because it gave me the opportunity to hear so many personal stories from people about how Michael has impacted their lives. Many people have told me about how they often turned to his music when struggling with things in their own lives. It gave them comfort, hope and escapism from their troubles. Some of those people even credited him with saving their lives. I can't help but wish that he would have been able to hear some of those stories while he was living. He made a difference in ways he probably never even knew. While Michael certainly had his share of accomplishments, I think one of his greatest is the MJ Community itself. He brought together people from all around the world and made us a family. Although we have our differences, we have one thing in common that sustains us- our love for him.  I've said it...
Jacksons Victory Tour '84
When I came across this video, uploaded by VIP dot member Mengesa "Mystro" Francis, it brought a huge smile to my face as I recalled so many wonderful memories. It is an excerpt from the Jacksons Victory Tour in 1984.  Quoting from the description under the video, "The tour featured 55 concerts, to an audience of approximately 2 million. The tour reportedly grossed approximately $75 million and set a new record for the then-largest grossing tour. The 1984 Victory Tour showcased Michael's single decorated glove, black sequined jacket and moonwalk, which captivated audiences around the world early in 1983, just about a year prior." Michael donated all of his proceeds from this tour to charity.  Enjoy this awesome video! JACKSONS VICTORY TOUR 84' (HD) from Michael Jacksonology: Tribute on Vimeo.
Michael Jackson Behind the Mask - A Review
I’ve always been fascinated with the subject of body language.  I agree with that old adage, actions speak louder than words. I think you can tell a lot about a person by their actions. Therefore, when I saw that Craig-James Baxter wrote a book about “What Michael Jackson’s body language told the world” I knew I had to read it.What’s interesting about this book, is that I found I had to be near a computer when I read it, because with every movement he described, I wanted to go back to the video he was referencing to observe it. The author reviews several notable interviews that Michael gave including the one with Oprah Winfrey and Martin Bashir. In addition, he reviews the rebuttal to “Living with Michael Jackson,” the statement from Neverland Ranch that Michael gave in 1993 in response to allegations of child molestation, and an interview with the police. I like how Craig describes body language in that it “sends out a silent message.”...
My Thoughts About Michael Jackson's Music Being Released
I have been asked to share my thoughts about whether I think Michael Jackson would be happy about Sony releasing his music. I personally can't say for sure how he would feel about it, because I'm not him. He spoke unfavorably about Sony in the past, but I don't know if his feelings changed before he passed away. The fact is, Sony is releasing his music. Therefore, it comes down to following your own feelings about whether it's right to buy or not, which will be different for each person based on what they hold important relative to Michael. I am not unconditionally in support of anything being released. For me, it's about whether they are respecting Michael's greatness as an artist. If something is going to be released, then what I expect is that his high standards be upheld. Michael Jackson was the epitome of excellence. There is a reason he was the best in the business. He was all about top-notch quality, and anything done posthumously must adhere to...
