On behalf of the entire MJTP team we send our condolences to the family of Whitney Houston; another beautiful human being gone too soon. You will be missed Whitney. Rest in peace with Michael.

Will You Be In L.A. on March 18?

Feast on the culinary delights of CHEF KAI CHASE (Michael Jackson's personal chef)! This rare opportunity is coming up at the Drawing Hope Gala on March 18th in Beverly Hills. Chase is known for tantalizing the taste buds with a fusion of traditional and exotic tastes. While this is not a Michal Jackson event, this may be your only chance to eat the food cooked by Michael's personal chef... and it is for a great cause. Drawing Hope International is David Ilan's charity that helps survivors of rape in over 150 countries. FIND OUT MORE

Occupy Michael Jackson

By Valmai Owens - I watched the Occupy movement become a living entity with great interest. To me, it marked a long-awaited awareness of social and economic inequality that had been buried beneath an avalanche of apathy and hopelessness, not just in this country, but worldwide. I was also impressed by the unity and collective passion of the protestors. I considered the vast undertaking of calling for global protests to be no small feat, especially non-violent protests, and was quietly astounded when on October 15, 2011; tens of thousands of demonstrators staged peaceful rallies, for the most part, in 900 cities around the world. A critical mass had been formed, and once the momentum had begun, there was simply no stopping it. An idea started to grow within me—a rather bold idea, but one I found to be shared by a few other, like-minded individuals. READ MORE

Worshiping Michael Jackson

By Linda Higgins - I recently had an interesting conversation with someone about the fact that some people think fans deify Michael Jackson. The conversation was spurred on by a comment I posted on Twitter. This person feels that fans can sometimes come off as worshipful of Michael. Some people think we only acknowledge the good in him and refuse to see “the dark side.” I’ve read comments from writers who perceive that fans see him as some kind of God. I can only speak for myself when I say that is not the case. READ MORE

Woman In the Mirror

By Debby Barker - 1966 – I remember when I was a child; my brother and I would sneak up the ladder into the attic of my grandmother’s house. It was a magical place not only because we were not supposed to be up there, (although I think that grandma was aware that we were there but simply didn’t want to deny two very curious children a great adventure,) but beneath the dust and cobwebs of years gone by lay the most fascinating of treasures. These items were so much better than the Tinker Toys, Slinkys and Lincoln Logs of our generation. These items were “old”! READ MORE

A Lesson About Courage

By Lauren Trainor - It’s been poking around in my brain for some time now.  Sort of like a visitor that I let in the door, not really sure I wanted his company. It began with a small, soft covered book, slim in size but sturdy in content. A writer and music critic opined eloquently on what he considered the finest film of 1991: “Black or White” by Michael Jackson. I’ll leave to the reader the decision whether to introduce oneself to the concept of “Truth to Power” and the fearlessness of a young man who dared challenge the established doctrine of a white power structure that had no use for him; no use for the political, sexual, gender twisting popular artist who painted their jealousy green and fueled an anger at his uppity-ness disguised in catchy tunes.  READ MORE

Love Through a Child's Heart

By Heather Nutt - The family unit as a whole also plays an important role in the way children identify themselves. If a child grows up with negativity and turmoil in the home, how will she proceed to make healthy choices in her teenage and adulthood years? If a child is never shown love, how can he begin to convey love to others? If a parent does not care, or expects too much from their child, how does that child begin to feel inside? When a child is constantly ridiculed or humiliated for being different from their peers, any hope is soon overshadowed by darkness. A child who doesn't feel love can become lost to their own existence, often feeling rejected, suppressing their feelings from others or turn to anyone who will just listen. READ MORE

Fans In The Mirror

While there are millions of Michael Jackson fans around the world, many fans have expressed feeling isolated in their love for the King of Pop. Family and friends just don't understand the deep connection, nor how fans felt they had lost a family member - or a part of themselves - when he passed away so unexpectedly. Bringing fans together in a pure, safe, and loving community has been one of the most important missions of the largest and most respected tribute in the world, The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait.

Fans in the Mirror is a book created from the experiences and feelings of some of these fans, who came together and "connected their dots" in this one of a kind tribute.

Overcoming Doubt and Trusting Yourself

“Others can't overcome fear for you; you have to do it on your own. It's hard, because fear and doubt hold on tight. We are afraid of being rejected, of being hurt once more. So we keep a safe distance. We think separating ourselves from others will protect us, but that doesn't work either. It leaves us feeling alone and unloved.

“Trusting yourself begins by recognizing that it's okay to be afraid. Having fear is not the problem, because everyone feels anxious and insecure sometimes. The problem is not being honest enough to admit your fear. Whenever I accept my own doubt and insecurity, I'm more open to other people.

“The deeper I go into myself, the stronger I become, because I realize that my real self is much bigger than any fear. In accepting yourself completely, trust becomes complete. There is no longer any separation between people, because there is no longer any separation inside. In the space where fear used to live, love is allowed to grow.”
